10 Best Austrian Movies to Watch

By Vlad Zakh · December 23, 2025

Austria Drama thought provokingintense

Austrian cinema built a reputation for real discomfort long before Michael Haneke went international, applying cold formal control to difficult subjects. Amour has an elderly husband caring for his wife after a stroke, The Piano Teacher has a repressed instructor’s compulsions surfacing, and Angst unfolds almost entirely inside a released convict’s head. Free Rainer, The Wall, Revanche, Goodnight Mommy, The Counterfeiters, The Robber and Museum Hours round out the list.
