Haiti’s film scene is small and largely funded from the diaspora, and its two best-travelled dramas circle the same subject: a fragile, self-deceiving grip on power. Moloch Tropical has a besieged president in his mountain palace watching his regime fall apart, Haiti My Love braids three stories of love and survival in Port-au-Prince, and Freda asks a young woman whether to stay and fight for her country or leave. Kidnapping Inc., The Man by the Shore and Douvan Jou Ka Leve round out the list.
