Azerbaijan Drama thought provoking
Azerbaijani cinema has leaned into stark, minimalist rural dramas since its post-Soviet revival, measuring national upheaval through people the state has mostly left behind. Nabat has an elderly widow refusing to abandon her mountain village as war empties it, Buta has a boy searching for the father who abandoned him, and The Precinct has a weary police officer finding corruption in his own ranks. The 40th Door, Steppe Man and Ali and Nino round out the list.
