6 Best Telegraph and Switchboard Operator Movies

By Vlad Zakh · April 8, 2026

The clattering telegraph key and the tangled switchboard cord once connected the world, and cinema found real drama and romance in the operators who ran them. In Sorry, Wrong Number (1948): A bedridden woman overhears a murder plot on a crossed telephone line and races to prevent it. Don’t overlook Pillow Talk (1959): A woman and a womanizing songwriter who share a party telephone line fall for each other under false pretenses.
