10 Best Movies of 2003

By Vlad Zakh · February 5, 2026

Big spectacle and small human stories shared the screen in 2003. The Return of the King wrapped up the Lord of the Rings trilogy with the final battle for Middle-earth, while Lost in Translation kept things intimate, with two lonely Americans drifting around the same Tokyo hotel. In between you get a clownfish crossing an ocean for his son in Finding Nemo, and Mystic River, which is about as bleak as films about friendship get.
