Michael Hordern brought a wonderfully fussy, distinguished presence to British stage and screen, becoming one of the era’s most prolific and versatile character actors. In The Spy Who Came in from the Cold (1965): A disillusioned British agent undertakes one final, morally ambiguous mission into East Germany. Equally memorable is Where Eagles Dare (1968): Allied commandos infiltrate a Nazi mountain fortress to rescue a captured American general.
