Michael Craig brought a steady, principled presence to British film, often playing ordinary men under extraordinary social and moral pressure. The Angry Silence ostracises a factory worker who refuses an unofficial strike, Sapphire exposes racial prejudice in a murder investigation, Life for Ruth challenges a father’s refusal of his dying daughter’s transfusion, and Mysterious Island strands escaped prisoners among giant creatures. The Silent Enemy and Passage Home round out the list.
