8 Best Gene Hackman Movies

By Vlad Zakh · January 8, 2026

Gene Hackman spent four decades as one of American film’s most reliably commanding presences, equally at home in gritty crime thrillers and warm ensemble comedy. Unforgiven makes him a tyrannical sheriff, Crimson Tide pits a submarine captain against his executive officer over a missile launch, Hoosiers coaches a small-town basketball team against the odds, and The Royal Tenenbaums has an estranged patriarch trying to reconnect with his family. The French Connection, The Conversation, Superman and Bonnie and Clyde round out the list.
