By Vlad Zakh · January 27, 2026
Chester Morris brought sharp, streetwise charisma to early Hollywood crime pictures, and his commanding presence made him a defining face of the genre’s first sound era. Meet Boston Blackie frames a reformed jewel thief for murder, Five Came Back leaves plane crash survivors in the Amazon deciding who gets the few seats home, Red-Headed Woman has a scheming secretary seducing her way up, and The Divorcee answers a husband’s infidelity with the same freedom. The Big House and Alibi round out the list.
