Daredevil and Watchmen took the genre into properly mature territory once it stopped copying the movies on a smaller scale, WandaVision made format itself the twist, and The Boys remains the sharpest satire. Jessica Jones follows a hard-drinking investigator with super-strength haunted by a mind-controlling villain, Titans is a grittier take on the Teen Titans, My Adventures with Superman is younger and more earnest, and Invincible is far darker than its animation suggests. Peacemaker, Loki, The Flash and Arrow round out the list.
