13 Best Indonesian Movies to Watch

By Vlad Zakh · September 5, 2026

Indonesia Action intense thought provoking

The Raid turned Indonesian action into a global export almost overnight, while a very different strand, led by Joshua Oppenheimer’s documentaries, forced the country to face its unpunished mass killings. Turah has a river-village community resisting eviction, Opera Jawa retells a love triangle as a full Javanese-rooted opera, and Ali & Ratu Ratu Queens sends a young man to New York to find the mother who left. The Act of Killing, The Look of Silence, Marlina the Murderer in Four Acts, Satan’s Slaves, Gundala and The Raid 2 round out the list.
