6 Best Alan Ladd Movies

By Vlad Zakh · January 31, 2026

Alan Ladd brought a cool, quiet intensity to film noir and Westerns, and his understated toughness made him one of the biggest stars of the 1940s and 1950s. Shane has a gunfighter trying to leave violence behind while helping homesteaders, The Blue Dahlia has a returning veteran suspected of his wife’s murder, and This Gun for Hire and The Glass Key are early noir hits. Whispering Smith and The Carpetbaggers round out his list.
