6 Best Poetry and Poet Movies

By Vlad Zakh · March 11, 2026

Poetry’s compressed emotional intensity has inspired a small but powerful group of films about the people who write it and those it transforms. In Dead Poets Society (1989): An unconventional teacher inspires his boarding school students to seize their own lives through poetry. Just as strong is Il Postino: The Postman (1994): A shy postman’s friendship with an exiled poet awakens his own gift for language and love.
