6 Best Pen Pal and Correspondence Romance Movies

By Vlad Zakh · March 5, 2026

There’s something enduringly romantic about falling in love through words alone, and these films use that premise for maximum charm. In The Shop Around the Corner (1940): Two feuding coworkers at a Budapest shop are secretly falling in love as anonymous pen pals. Just as strong is 84 Charing Cross Road (1987): A New York writer’s decades-long correspondence with a London bookseller blossoms into a deep friendship.
