6 Best Hospital and Surgeon Movies

By Vlad Zakh · March 7, 2026

The hospital’s mix of life-and-death stakes and institutional bureaucracy has produced some of drama’s most intense character studies. In The Elephant Man (1980): A Victorian surgeon befriends a severely disfigured man exploited as a sideshow attraction. Just as strong is Awakenings (1990): A doctor’s experimental treatment temporarily revives catatonic patients frozen for decades.
