The salon chair has long been a stage for gossip, community, and unexpected wisdom, and these films mine it for both comedy and heart. In Steel Magnolias (1989): A close-knit group of women share laughter and heartbreak at their small-town Louisiana beauty salon. Another standout is Hairspray (2007): A plus-sized teenager with big dreams and bigger hair fights for a spot on a local TV dance show.
