6 Best Backstage Theater Movies

By Vlad Zakh · February 24, 2026

Backstage theatre is where ego and ambition show up uninvited. Birdman follows a washed-up superhero actor betting everything on Broadway, Shakespeare in Love has a struggling playwright falling for his muse, and Topsy-Turvy shows Gilbert and Sullivan patching up their partnership to create their most famous opera. All About Eve and The Dresser bring the backstage knives, and The Seagull stages Chekhov’s tangle of unrequited loves.
